Bommel and Tom Poesmuseum opens in Assen: ‘If you understand what I mean’

If you walk from the station in Assen to the city center via Stationsstraat, you will see that an empty shop window on the left has suddenly become a museum. The Bommel and Tom Poes Museum has been open since this week. This fulfills a great wish for founder Bastiaan Koijck.

“It’s great that this was successful,” says Koijck beaming. He wears a yellow checkered jacket, just like the cartoon character Bommel. “When you have this on, it is completely clear. I like to play the role of Lord Bommel. The charming van Bommel just suits me.”

Olivier B. Bommel is a well-known character from the Tom Poes comics by Marten Toonder. Koijck has been a fan of comics since his childhood and has been collecting everything related to them since he was seven. The museum contains hundreds of objects from its own collection, such as comics, drawings, figurines and games.
