The Frenchman would have renewed for two years plus another optional and not three as PSG had initially announced

In 2023, PSG would have to sell him to prevent him from leaving for free, or convince him to activate the optional year

Kylian Mbappe gave the surprise this summer when he said ‘no’ to real Madrid and decided to sign his signature on a new contract with PSG to renew until 2025.

Even so, new information from L’Équipe suggests that Mbappé did not really renew for three more years as PSG had announced, but would have done it for two years plus another optional.

In fact, this third year could only be activated by the player, and not by the club.

And, in this sense, Paris Saint-Germain would only have two options in 2023: sell him to prevent him from being released in 2024, or try to convince him to unilaterally renew another year, until 2025.

With this scenario, everything points to the soap opera reopening Mbappe just one year from now, before the summer market of 23.
