Bomb Danger! New fence around blast site

No all-clear for Grunewald!

According to the fire brigade, the situation around the exploded blast site remains highly dangerous. Bitter consequence for all motorists: The Avus remains closed – at least on Tuesday!

In addition, after the fires are over, a fence is to be drawn around the site of the detonation site – because of the risk of bombs!

As was announced on Monday, ammunition is said to have flown from the detonation site into the forest during the detonations last Thursday. This dashed hopes of releasing the A115 to car traffic in the afternoon.

The fire brigade still can’t get into the inner 550 meter exclusion zone. Drones with thermal imaging cameras flew over the area on Monday. Six buildings at the blast site were destroyed by the blasts.

Fire department spokesman Thomas Kirstein said in the afternoon: “At the hotspots we still measured temperatures of over 140 degrees. Tanks and firefighting robots can’t get close to investigate the area.” Barbed wire lying around is also hampering explorations in the area.

On Monday morning, the helpers had hoped to be able to reduce the restricted area so that firefighters could go into the undergrowth with extinguishers. But the temperatures at the so-called hotspots would have had to be below 60 degrees Celsius for at least two hours.

► There were two more explosions during the night. In addition, three areas where ammunition or fragments flew were located. “The forest area around the blast site cannot be entered and will remain so for the time being,” said Gunnar Heine, head of Berlin Forestry, to the BZ “Because we simply do not know what was thrown out there in the explosions and where.

The plan: after the end of the operation, the area outside the blast site area should also be closed off with a fence – according to BZ information at a distance of around 250 meters.
