The President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, is the official representative of the candidate of the Right Liberal Partij (PL) for the Presidential Association of the beginning of October. The general and defense minister Walter Souza Braga Netto worded the PL candidate for the vice-presidentschap.
In Brazil, there can be no candidate for the presidency. Bolsonaro was born in 2018 as the leader of the right-wing Partido Social Liberal. The partij lost hij in 2019 om een own partij op te judge. Omdat the nooit van de grond kwam, was het 67-year-old state school and last year lid van de PL.

Volgens peilingen loopt the right-wing populist Bolsonaro aft of the leftist ex-president Lula, the Thursday in São Paulo was proposed as a candidate for the leftist Arbeiderspartij (PT). Op de derde plaats in de peilingen, op grote afstand van Bolsonaro en Lula, ligt Ciro Gomes van de eveneens left Democratische Arbeiderspartij (PDT).
Bolsonaro hoopt het tij te keren door meer sociale uitgaven te beloven. Daarnaast zaait hij twijfels over het Braziliaanse kiesstelsel. Daardoor bestaat he twijfel of hij een eventuele verkiezingsnederlaag to accepteren.
Vanaf 16 augustus zijn verkiezingscampagnes in Brazilië officieel toegestaan. Tot dan hebben partijen en allianties de mogelijkheid candidates aan te report to the Hoogrechteshof.
