Hertha professional Jean-Paul Boetius says he survived his operation for a testicular tumor well.
“The surgery went through and went well,” wrote the 28-year-old midfielder from the Berlin Bundesliga team on Instagram. He also posted a photo of himself in bed. Boetius smiles and makes the victory sign with both hands. “Thank you for the heartwarming and uplifting words,” he wrote, thanking his club and medical team for the help.
Hertha announced the testicular tumor diagnosis on Thursday. “As bitter as this news is at first, we are full of hope and confidence that Jean-Paul will recover and return to our circle as soon as possible,” sporting director Fredi Bobic said in a statement. “Until he returns, we will give him every support we can.”
The Berlin newcomer Boetius is the fourth known case with this diagnosis in the Bundesliga in the recent past. According to experts, lifestyle factors or certain sports have no influence on the development of testicular cancer.
