The fundraising campaign to bring the bodies of the victims of the family tragedy in Boekel to Poland has received massive support. The target amount of 2,500 euros was reached within two days. The relatives of the deceased mother and son would like to bury them in Poland. Wioletta Nowak, who started the campaign, is very happy with the proceeds: “This is a very nice gesture.”
The shock is still great in Boekel after last Wednesday’s family tragedy. In a house on Dotterbloem, a mother stabbed her twelve-year-old son to death. His ten-year-old sister survived the stabbing, but ended up in hospital with serious injuries. The children’s mother died later that afternoon after she crashed into a truck in Wilbertoord.
Extremely grateful
An acquaintance of the family started a fundraising campaign, in order to transport the bodies to Poland. The mother and children were born in that country. The relatives want to bury their loved ones there, but just transporting the bodies to Poland costs 2,500 euros. That is a lot of money by Polish standards, because most people there only earn 700 euros per month and are not insured.
The fundraising campaign started on Saturday. The target amount of 10,000 Polish zloty had already been reached on Monday afternoon. Wioletta is extremely grateful. “That says something about the people who have given and that the compassion for the relatives is great,” she says. “Despite the entire tragic event, people also look at the other side and solidarity prevails. It’s still hard to understand what happened, but this gives a good feeling.”

Many people wonder whether something can’t be done for the girl who survived the stabbing. Wioletta cannot say anything about this for privacy reasons. “I don’t want to cause more commotion. I simply started the action to help the relatives.”
Wioletta does not yet know whether the crowdfunding will be stopped now that the amount achieved has been reached, or whether more will be raised for funerals, for example. “I set up this campaign together with family members and friends. So I will discuss that with them.”
It is not yet known when the bodies will be brought to Poland.
