Boeing again suspends deliveries of 787 Dreamliner, this time due to hull problems

The American aircraft manufacturer Boeing has to stop delivery of the 787 Dreamliner again in the near future. The company and the US aviation authority have announced this, international news agencies reported on Friday. The suspension is the result of problems with the fuselage of the relatively economical aircraft. Two years ago, Boeing also halted deliveries for more than a year due to production errors. According to the company, the safety of the active fleet is not at stake.

According to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), “additional analyzes” are needed on a specific fuselage component. Only when these have been completed and the problems resolved can Boeing resume deliveries of the 787 Dreamliner. The aircraft manufacturer thought that the problems with the aircraft had just come to an end. In August last year, the FAA allowed deliveries again, after they had been halted since May 2021.

The long-term halt on deliveries of the 787 Dreamliner had a major impact on Boeing’s profits last year. Also due to current developments, Boeing shares fell again by 2.6 percent. Boeing has been under close scrutiny since two 737 MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019 — four months apart. The deadly crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia cost the lives of a total of 346 people and led to a worldwide ban on flights with the device.
