Body remains of child found in French garden after twenty years, mother and stepfather point fingers at each other | Abroad

Human remains have been found in the garden of a home in Pantin, a suburb of Paris. They were found as part of an investigation into a mysterious murder of a child twenty years ago. The mother and stepfather are now pointing fingers at each other.

The ball started rolling when a woman accused her husband of killing her son in early 2021 in the context of a domestic violence case. The facts are said to have already occurred in 2004.

According to the mother, the boy was buried in the basement. However, a search then turned up nothing.

Togo

The woman said that the child was the result of a previous relationship. In 2001 she allegedly took him from Togo to France. “However, at the time the murder was allegedly committed, no report was filed. On the contrary: the mother claimed to family and friends that the boy had gone abroad again,” the public prosecutor’s office said in a press release.

The case would never completely disappear from attention afterwards. In fact, a judicial investigation started on August 31, 2023. As part of this, the stepfather was interrogated, with results: this week he pointed out the place where the child was buried, in the garden where the family still lives. According to his version, it was his now ex-wife who was responsible for the boy’s death and he only helped to bury the body.

Who had what role?

The investigating judge from Bobigny has therefore now arrested both the stepfather (65) and the mother (54). They are both accused of murdering a minor. Further research must reveal who exactly had what role.

“Based on the remains, the age of the victim is estimated to be between 5 and 10 years,” said a police source. The cause of death is still unclear.
