Body of man (53) found in Ghent, presumably thrown into water by friends | Abroad

The body of a 53-year-old man was found in the water in Ghent. The man is believed to have drowned. Eyewitnesses saw that the man was thrown into the water by two other men last night, Belgian media write.

On The last news tells an eyewitness that screaming woke her in the morning. From her window she saw two men swinging a third man on a bridge and throwing it into the canal. There was also a fourth man present who just watched. Eyewitnesses believe that the men were acquaintances and that it was a joke.

After the victim did not resurface, the rest fled, according to an eyewitness. The last news reports that one of the men drove away in a car with a Dutch registration.

The fire brigade went into the water with divers and managed to retrieve the lifeless body of the victim with a crane this afternoon.

Police looking for two men

Police are currently looking for the two men who threw the victim into the water. The police do not yet want to disclose the identity of the victim, except that he is 53 years old and comes from Ghent.

The Ghent Festivities are currently taking place in the Flemish city, a large festival that is held every summer and attracts tens of thousands of visitors. The incident took place just outside the festival site.
