Serenity McKinney’s remains were found Friday in undergrowth along a winding road surrounded by woods in West Point, Kentucky. Her disappearance was reported by her grandparents on December 24, 2020. For fourteen months, the investigators were baffled. Serenity was last seen at the family home, her body was found an hour’s drive from that place.
It’s not entirely clear how the four-year-old died, but Serenity’s mother and her current boyfriend are accused of murdering her. They are currently in custody. They are also accused of abusing the toddler’s corpse, the Daily Mail reports.

The grandparents, who signaled her disappearance, had their last contact with Serenity’s mother in the fall. They hadn’t seen their granddaughter for a year. Through the Messenger app, Serenity’s mother indicated that everything was going well with the toddler, but the grandparents did not think that was enough, so they eventually reported her missing.
According to the police, the mother refused to help search and then disappeared. The couple was arrested in Kansas last week.
