The police reported on Twitter on Wednesday evening that an investigation shows that it concerns the 20-year-old sailor who was missing since the ship capsized on the Nieuwe Waterweg midway through last month. The family has been notified.
After the capsizing, one other crew member from the 40-meter-long vessel was able to be rescued. The missing sailor was searched for by specialized divers in the water, but he was not found.
Because at the time of the incident there was an ebb current, a current towards the sea, after a few days, according to the Rotterdam-Rijnmond Safety Region, no more active searches were made in the area. A spokesman said he would remain “extra vigilant”.
The Dutch Safety Board is investigating the capsize of the ship.
