Bobic drives up to the Hertha training ground – when does he speak?

When does Fredi Bobic speak? Hardly anyone still believes in a future for coach Tayfun Korkut at Hertha BSC. The coach that Bobic only installed in November is obviously not suitable as a savior in Berlin’s super chaos. There is already a lot of speculation about possible successors.

In the sunshine, Fredi Bobic drove up to the Hertha BSC training ground shortly after ten o’clock on Sunday. The managing director of the Berlin Bundesliga club has not yet had anything to say publicly. But despite the deceptive spring idyll, a statement was expected at any time. At Hertha BSC, everything boils down to a separation from coach Tayfun Korkut.

After the 0: 2 (0: 1) on Saturday evening in the crisis duel with the direct relegation competitor Borussia Mönchengladbach, Korkut already seemed realistically composed in view of the upcoming talks with Bobic. “I also know that nobody is above the club,” said Korkut shortly before leaving Mönchengladbach.

The obligatory regeneration training was announced as a unit off the pitch, and the usual media interview with the coach was not scheduled at all. In the red brick building of the Hertha office on the Olympic site, there were other conversations to be had on Sunday morning. Possible Korkut successors were candidates such as Daniel Farke, who had just returned from Russia from FK Krasnodar, or rescuer-renter Friedhelm Funkel, with whom Hertha had already been relegated in 2010.

In view of the unbelievable negative run – Hertha is the worst second half team in the Bundesliga and still without a win this year – Bobic announced what will probably be the final round of work-up for Korkut.

“You will certainly hear one or the other from us,” said Bobic late on Saturday evening on ZDF. Sticking to Korkut purely for lack of alternatives would be a big surprise and would ensure another Berlin week with many public discussions.

“It’s a fact, we’re missing points, we’re on a direct relegation zone,” said Bobic on Sky. Eight games before the end of the season, the Berliners fell back to 17th place after goals conceded by Alassane Plea (24th minute / penalty kick) and Matthias Ginter (60th) behind VfB Stuttgart, who had the same number of points.

Next Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky) TSG 1899 Hoffenheim is the next opponent in the Olympic Stadium. After the following international break, the opponents are Bayer Leverkusen and Union Berlin, before a three-pack against relegation rivals FC Augsburg, VfB Stuttgart and Arminia Bielefeld.

“Of course I’ll talk to the coach. That’s why there won’t be any heck-a-boo. Rather, we shall see. We will definitely comment on this tomorrow,” announced Bobic.

Korkut actually did not want to comment on the reasons for the difficult situation of Hertha, who started the season with completely different ambitions: “In my situation you shouldn’t say: it’s because of that or because of that.” When asked, however, he pointed to the unrest in the vicinity of the club. “I am responsible for the sporting situation. Everything around it is not always as you imagine it to be. But that should never be an alibi,” said the 47-year-old former Turkey international.
