Bob Wouda: ‘Afraid that Putin wants to annex more land’ | 1Limburg

Bob Wouda (72) from Baexem has lived in the Ukrainian capital Kiev for many years. With tensions running high in the east of the country, he fears Russia may want to annex more land.

That is what Wouda tells on Wednesday evening in L1mburg Central.

Annexation
According to him, Western leaders should have intervened more strongly in 2014, as is the case now. “Had Western countries responded well to the annexation of Crimea, we could have prevented Putin from installing missiles, which he did and is a serious threat.”

Back to 1911
Wouda expects that Putin wants to restore the borders of the Soviet Union, as it were. He is therefore afraid that more areas will be invaded. “As Putin has indicated, we are going back to 1911, just after the world war. And that has really hit the Ukrainian people. And what we are also afraid of is that Putin wants to annex the southern part of the country, the southern part of the country. part of Mariupol.”

Humanitarian goods
Wouda is currently in the Netherlands to arrange humanitarian goods, such as beds or children’s clothing, for Ukraine. He hopes to be able to leave for his second mother country again soon with a few trucks. The Baexemse pensioner has been collecting relief supplies for the former Soviet republic for sixteen years. He is married to a Ukrainian, with whom he has two children.
