Brian Wilson, who rose to fame as a member of the Beach Boys, celebrated his 80th birthday on June 20, 2022. To celebrate this special day of honor, Wilson uploaded a seven-minute video to his YouTube channel. In it, a number of well-known colleagues have their say.
Touching words and spontaneous serenade
The video begins with Elton John telling Wilson, “You’ve inspired me my whole life. To me you are the only true pop genius in the world and I love you very much.”
After that, some prominent names from the entertainment and music industry like Smokey Robinson, Barry Gibb, Carole King, Graham Nash, Jeff Bridges, John Cusack, David Crosby, John Fogert, Chuck D from Public Enemy and Questlove will have their say. The grand finale is Bob Dylan playing “Happy Birthday” on his acoustic guitar.
Creative head of the Beach Boys
Wilson wrote most of the Beach Boys’ songs, and the Southern California band’s hits include songs like “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “Surfin’ USA,” “Fun, Fun, Fun,” “I Get Around,” and “Good Vibes”.
“That’s Why God Made the Radio”, Wilson’s last album with the Beach Boys, was released in 2012. The musician released his latest studio album “At My Piano” in 2021. It contains solo versions of many classic Beach Boys songs.
As a recognition for his creative work, Brian Wilson was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of the Beach Boys in 1988. He has also been a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame since 2000.
