Boaz’s (9) Pokémon swap fair from Hoorn was a great success

There was a lot of negotiation this afternoon in the De Zaagtand community center. Several children came to the swap meet, organized by 9-year-old Boaz. His goal to trade double cards and get to know new children has more than succeeded, according to him. “I really didn’t expect this!”

The young organizer is happy with the turnout this afternoon. “I’ve been wanting this for a while and I’m glad we managed to have a new activity in the city,” he says. Boaz’s enthusiasm for the Pokémon cards can also be seen in other children who came to the swap meet.

“I’m mainly looking for old maps,” says one of them. There are already a lot of folders with maps around him, but the older the maps, the better. “They are worth more!”

Fair trade

Where one looks more at the colors of a card, the other picks up his phone to check online what a card is worth. “One card may be worth 50 euros and the other 100 euros. So I have to check that, otherwise the exchange is not fair.”

More than collecting

In addition to exchanging the cards, it is also possible to ‘battle’ with each other. To help the children understand the game better, Boaz also asked the games specialist store De Spellenhoorn to come by. “I explain to the children how the card game works,” says Samuel van Straalen.

It is often thought that it is only about saving the cards, he continues. “From the start it’s really a card game, but many people mainly focus on saving. But I’m surprised how quickly the children pick up the game.”

All in all, there was a lot of negotiation in the community center and if it’s up to Boaz, it won’t just be this edition.
