Jong AZ did not manage to stunt against ADO Den Haag tonight. In Wijdewormer, the visitors were 1-0 too strong due to a goal by Thomas Verheydt. The boarding could not stop the cheering ADO fans, which meant that the game had more than fifteen minutes of stoppage time.
It wasn’t a great match, especially in the opening phase. As the first half progressed, ADO Den Haag became increasingly stronger. The biggest opportunities were for Xander Severina and Verheydt. Young AZ goalkeeper Sem Westerveld kept both of them from scoring. Verheydt’s shot went over the crossbar.
Mexx Meerdink got the best opportunity for the home team. He tried from a great distance, because he saw keeper Hugo Wentges standing too far in front of his goal. His shot surprised the goalkeeper but the ball went wide.
Goal causes interruption
After the break, the pressure from ADO Jong AZ became too much. Verheydt’s header in the 67th minute from a cross by ex-Ajacied Ricardo Kishna. The game was then stopped for ten minutes, because the boarding gave way after the cheers of the ADO supporters who had traveled with them. Temporary fences were placed by AZ to keep the fans at a distance.
Due to the delay, referee Robin Gansner decided to grant fourteen minutes of stoppage time. In that extra time, especially the Hagenaars had opportunities. Finally, the whistle was blown in the 106th minute.
Jong AZ is the number fifteen in the first division with 38 points from 35 matches. ADO Den Haag is sixth.
