BNNVARA seems to be Theo Maassen’s new travel series about Germany on hold TV authority Tina Nijkamp reports. “Very understandable, because this is a festering wound.”
While the VPRO is still quietly debating whether Theo Maassen will be included in the presentation of Zomergasten again this year, BNNVARA seems to be taking a slightly more rigorous approach. Theo’s travel series that is in preparation, Der Theo, will be removed from the schedules, according to Tina Nijkamp. There is too much potential damage to image.
Through the toilet
Tina talks in her podcast Tina’s TV Update that it looks like six tons are being flushed down the toilet. After all, so much money has gone into the travel series. “BNNVARA – and that is the striking thing – says that they were planning to broadcast this in the spring, but that this is not certain now.”
She continues: “That only means one thing and that is that it simply won’t happen this spring. It would of course have been logical to broadcast it this spring, because of course the European Football Championship is coming up and football and Germany and the Netherlands; We know what those relationships are like.”
Watch your place
However, it is no different, says Tina. “It would have made sense in that sense, but it doesn’t seem that way at all now. I understand BNNVARA that they are taking a standstill for the time being, because they are actually in the same situation as RTL was a few weeks ago with Matthijs van Nieuwkerk.”
There is simply too much danger of this exploding further, she continues. “Even though Theo has not yet responded to the accusations of alleged domestic violence and those around him have made a statement that there was no question of his wife having a broken nose, it has become too uncertain.”
Purulent wound
Theo has become a liability. “BNNVARA will think: what if more reports come out about possible abuse? That then becomes a festering wound. I would understand BNNVARA if they say: we will put it on the shelf for the time being and see how it develops.”
She concludes: “BNNVARA can no longer use a riot. There was a fuss with the editorial staff of Zembla, Paul de Leeuw is in controversy, there are new developments about Matthijs every day and Khalid Kasem is at home because of possible bribery during his time as a lawyer. And now this. It’s just too much.”
