The cars will be built on a mix line with the 5 Series, 8 Series and the all-electric SUV iX. Plant manager Christoph Schrder said: “This enables us to build along the drive mix that is actually in demand and to make the best possible use of our plant.” The main markets for the luxury sedans with entry-level prices from 107,300 euros for the diesel and 135,900 euros for the battery car are China, the USA, Germany, Great Britain and Korea.
The market leader for luxury sedans has been the S-Class from Mercedes-Benz (Mercedes-Benz Group (ex-Daimler)). Highly automated driving according to Level 3, in which the driver hands over responsibility to the vehicle, is something BMW only wants to release in about a year and a half.
This year, every fourth car from Dingolfing should have an electric drive, and every second car by the middle of the decade. The batteries and electric motors are also manufactured in Dingolfing. 2,300 employees now work in e-drive construction. Dingolfing is the largest BMW factory in Europe. 245,000 cars rolled off the assembly line there last year.
The BMW share is listed in XETRA trading at times 0.34 percent lighter at 73.21 euros.
