The new electric vehicle presented by BMW Motorrad, the CE 02, is a vehicle halfway between a scooter and a motorcycle, a sort of pit bike. The 11 kW version (15 HP, can be driven with an A1 license from 16 years of age) a starting price of 8,750 euros. The angular design takes up the stylistic dictates of its big brother CE 04. Round elements meet square shapes in a continuous play of shapes that enhances the dimensions of the vehicle: narrow (87.6 cm) and long (197 cm). The small 3.5″ TFT screen can be “expanded”, in the rich Highline version, with your smartphone: by downloading the BMW Motorrad Connected application it is in fact possible to transform your mobile phone into an additional second screen. Performance and runtime charging we talk about it in the technical data sheet. Three driving modes: the quiet Flow, the more brilliant Surf and the optional Flash, the most exciting, available only with the Highline set-up. The frame passes between the legs, like on a motorbike . The suspension department is notable, with a 37mm upside down telescopic fork. Then there is ABS on the front, reverse gear, LED headlight, heated grips and 14″ alloy wheels. You can choose whether to adopt a more relaxed driving position by placing your feet on the front footrests or moving them back and positioning them on the passenger footrests. Last two data to take into account: the saddle is 75 cm from the ground and the weight is 132 kg.
BMW CE 02: how’s it going?
—
The long saddle and double footrests allow you, when unaccompanied, to choose the best position for yourself. However, during the short test ride we noticed that our back was always a little hunched. It must be said that with a seat height of 75 cm no driver will ever feel particularly in danger, neither when moving nor when manoeuvring. The low center of gravity and reverse gear reassure even those who have never tried a two-wheeled vehicle. The front is for a small displacement motorcycle, it has nothing to do with a scooter. There is a noteworthy fork, well supported, and the possibility of directing the vehicle quickly also using the legs. Quick at traffic lights, it reaches 50 km/h in the blink of an eye, but the draw length isn’t bad at all either. There is all the power needed (and even more) for daily use. There is no aerodynamic protection: if you want it, it is practically mandatory to add a windshield. And the storage capacity is also nil: the saddle pad is not thereso to avoid carrying the helmet by hand the only possibility is to opt for the optional 29 liter top case.
