Annemarie de Kunder is strongly criticized for the way in which she reports on the Caribbean work trip of Crown Princess Amalia for RTL Boulevard. “She’s just not standing with flags yet.”
The way in which Annemarie de Kunder reports on Princess Amalia’s first major work trip is nothing to write home about, says Televizier journalist Jef Willemsen. He thinks that the RTL Boulevard reporter behaves more like a royalty fan than a journalist.

It is not to be seen, says Jef. “For Amalia, a 2-week working visit full of dry ceremonies will mean biting through. But we have 2 weeks of uncritical kir-and-jubel commentary from Annemarie de Kunder at RTL Boulevard ahead of us. ? She is just not waiting at the gate with flags,” she tweets.
Jeff thinks it’s going too far. “Yes, as a royalty reporter independence is always difficult (something with a media code, the RVD and goodwill). But being such a showy fan really hurts your credibility.”
Sinterklaas news
Amalia has visited the so-called slave houses on Bonaire, among other things. A girl who was allowed to give her a flower there was subjected to an in-depth interview by Annemarie. “Does it matter that the reporting on the Sinterklaas news comes across as more professional and serious. Totally fun! *cough*”, said Jeff.
He continues: “The little girl thought it was quite exciting to give the royals flowers. Well. Those are of course the hard, juicy quotes that you can only get on the spot as a reporter.”
Extremely idol
It must be over with reporters like Annemarie, says Jef. “All nonsense aside: of course these kinds of royalty items are not hard news reports. But a little more distance and maybe speaking to someone who is not extremely idolized by the Oranjes would help.”
He sighs: “Not *everything* is always fantastic.”
