Mark van der Laan, trainer of Blauw-Wit, is very disappointed with the corona infections within his selection and the cancellation against KZ that followed. “Certainly after our good game against KCC, we would have loved to have played against them,” said the trainer of the Amsterdam korfball players last night during the radio broadcast of NH Sport.
The Korfball League has moved the derby to Tuesday 1 February. “That makes it extra annoying, because partly due to the infections we stop for a week with the selection. As a result, we can’t train properly,” continues Van der Laan.
Van der Laan: “We will first have a difficult away game on Sunday against LDODK (competitor in battle for champion group ed.) and then on Tuesday we will play against KZ (another competitor ed.). There is less than 48 hours in between, “So I’m not very happy about that. You don’t even see this in the Premier League. That’s asking for injuries, after a week without training.”
Preventive testing
Players are tested preventively on every match day, that was last Saturday. No corona infections were found there. “Sunday a team member called me who had problems with his throat, but tested negative during the self-test. I then advised to do a test at the GGD if it persists. The result was a positive result.”
After this, each player was asked to do a self-test. “On Tuesday everyone was still neatly negative. We hoped that it would remain with that one positive test. On Thursday we asked if everyone wanted to do a preventive self-test again. There were so many positive corona cases that we canceled the training and on Friday there were a few more.”
Derby postponement
After the infections came to light, Blauw-Wit submitted a request to postpone the match. “Then the Korfball League came up with a new date and that has become this. We can oppose it, but the question is how much sense that makes. I will let it run its course at administrative level. The NOS broadcasts the game live. on Sunday, so I don’t expect it to be moved to Saturday.”
Blauw-Wit’s trainer was in Austria with colleagues and seems to be getting out of hand. “Coincidentally I had to do another PCR test on Wednesday and then left for Austria. Fortunately I tested negative and hopefully it stays that way.”
