Proof-of-Visit NFTs for Lake Brienz

For many travelers, part of the holiday experience is being able to take a souvenir home with them as a memento of the destination they visited. Whether it’s shot glasses, fridge magnets or landmark selfies – everyone has their own preferences. The Swiss shipping company BLS Schifffahrt, which took over the operation of all scheduled boats on Lakes Brienz and Thun in early 2022, plans to launch an NFT collection called ‘Magic of Iseltwald’, specifically aimed at visitors to the well-known Iseltwald pier on the outskirts of Lake Brienz.

Although the company had a record year in 2022, the new NFT collection aims to help attract and expand visitor flows from Korea in particular. According to jungfrauzeitung.ch, in addition to the breathtaking beauty of the Swiss landscape, the Korean series “Crash Landing on You” is one reason why Korean tourists travel to the region. The company therefore plans to offer so-called Proof-of-Visit-NFTs, which enable holidaymakers to have a digital souvenir of their trip. Instead of a physical souvenir, the NFT on the smartphone serves as a reminder of the trip, which fans of the series in particular should be happy about.

The collection consists of 500 unique comic-style images of the landing stage in Iseltwald. The images contain various accessories, clothing items and other typical elements and serve as a unique collector’s item. Each NFT is randomly assigned a rarity level of “rare”, “very rare” or “ultra rare”. The NFT collection is available exclusively on the ships on Lake Brienz and costs CHF 30 per card in postcard format. Each card contains a scratch panel with the appropriate phrase code for the buyer’s wallet.

Tourism industry discovers NFTs

The tourism industry has suffered greatly during the pandemic. As they reopen, many tourism companies are looking for new ways to integrate technological innovations such as NFTs into their tourism concepts. Thailand has already launched the second season of its “Amazing Thailand” NFTs, which consists of 24,000 tokens and can be collected by visitors at 20 different tourist attractions in five regions of the country until the end of April, according to NFT Plazas. By purchasing the NFTs, collectors receive various benefits for their further journey, including discounts on flights, hotels, shopping and restaurants. The country hopes the promotion will attract visitors while also rewarding tourists for visiting important cultural sites in the country. The aim is to draw attention to the cultural diversity of the country. The previous season, held in November 2022, was quite successful. Tourists collected over 17,000 NFTs in total during the season.
