Blown roof covering falls on parked cars

The residents of seven houses in the Irisstraat in Steenbergen saw their roofs fly away on Friday due to storm Eunice. The roofing then blew against the cars parked in the street. A few cars are a total loss.

Dion Koen lives in Irisstraat. He suddenly heard a bang around four o’clock on Friday afternoon. “My wife and I walked to the front yard window to see what had happened. Then we suddenly saw the roof in the garden.”

A whole row of houses lost their roofing. In some houses everything was ripped off the roof, in other houses part of it. Dion’s car was also damaged. The car is covered in black sludge and has several scratches.

“We first tried to call 112, but that number was completely gone. After that, someone contacted the municipality. He acted immediately.”

Roofers have now applied an emergency layer. “If it starts to rain now, we will at least be dry.”

Dion has lived in the house on Irisstraat for 45 years. In all that time he never had such big problems. “Let’s hope this is the first and the last time.”
