Blood moon barely visible over Brabant on Monday morning

It’s one of the most beautiful shows of our solar system: the total lunar eclipse. The special phenomenon takes place on Sunday night and Monday morning. But this so-called blood moon will hardly be visible over Brabant.

In principle, the total eclipse can be seen all over the world between 4.28 pm and 7.56 am Dutch time. The most beautiful moment takes place from one minute to five to five in the morning. Then the moon is exactly in the shadow of the earth. Direct sunlight then no longer hits the moon, causing a red glow.

Clouds throw a spanner in the works
In the Netherlands, the sun rises around a quarter to six and the moon sets a little earlier. As a result, a large part of the lunar eclipse cannot be seen. Due to the low position of the moon, it also needs to be clear to follow the spectacle. In the south there will be quite a lot of clouds on Monday morning and a chance of rain and thunderstorms, according to Weerplaza.

If you still want to see the rare total lunar eclipse, it is best to leave the province for a while. Find a viewing spot with little city light in Gelderland, Overijssel or Drenthe. It doesn’t get cold. The temperature at the end of the night is between 12 and 16 degrees. We have to be patient for the next total lunar eclipse that should be visible in the Netherlands. According to experts, it is in 2025.
