Blockage in main sewer cause stench at Emmen pond

A blockage in the main sewer is the cause of the stench in an overflow pond between the Angelslo and Emmerhout districts in Emmen. This has now been remedied, says alderman René van der Weide. With which the pit air must also be pressed in its head.

Last week, local residents complained about a dirty air that arose after a heavy rain shower. Excess sewage water was discharged into the pond water in its entirety. Feces, tampons and sanitary towels floated in the water as a result. According to local residents, this happens more often after rainfall.

In short, a case that literally had a smell. Henk Bos (Wakker Emmen) therefore asked the alderman whether action is being taken. Van der Weide said that checks will in any case be carried out more often. “We are also looking at whether we can replace the concrete sewer pipe with a plastic one.” This would reduce the risk of blockages.

The municipality also plans to replace the surrounding sewer system as much as possible with a separate system. In Angelslo, this has already happened in previous years at the Elkingeslag, Bettingeslag and Smedingeslag. In the future, the sewage system on Wendeling, Oude Meerdijk and Laan van het Kinholt will be replaced. In Emmerhout, another drain is being made at the overflow pond on Houtweg.

It is not yet known when these plans will be implemented.
