It was still said on Thursday that FC Bayern had not yet entered into negotiations with RB Leipzig to get rid of the released sports director Max Eberl. But that has apparently changed now. At the moment it is even assumed that there will be a lightning poker around Eberl, who is planned to be the sports director in Munich.
According to various reports, Max Eberl has already reached an agreement with FC Bayern, but before the new sports director can get started in Munich, the Munich bosses first have to approach RB Leipzig, because that is exactly where Eberl is officially under contract until 2026.
After “kicker” reported during the week that the German record champions had not yet made contact with the Red Bulls, “Sky” had new information ready on Friday.
Negotiations between the two sides have now officially started. And what’s more: These are already well advanced and are apparently even close to completion.
The alleged lightning poker involving Eberl is primarily about the transfer payment for the 50-year-old. According to the TV station, this will be around four to five million euros.
Leipzig board member Johann Plenge recently made it clear that RB Leipzig would not give Eberl away for free or for a ridiculous price. At the winter training camp he emphasized that the former managing director’s contract had not yet been terminated.
FC Bayern still has to approve Max Eberl
“The moment Bayern pick up the phone, we will talk about how that changes,” said Plenge. Said contact now appears to have been established.
In order for Eberl to actually be able to start his work in Munich, he still needs the approval of FC Bayern’s supervisory board after clarification with RB. This could take place in February and is, however, purely a formality.
FC Bayern had already partially closed the gap caused by the dismissal of sports director Hasan Salihamidzic through sports director Christoph Freund. However, with long-time Bundesliga official Eberl, there is a manager who will be given overall sporting responsibility and will probably start in April.
