Blaszczykowski ended his professional career – champion and cup winner with BVB

Second most appearances for Poland

Jakub Blaszczykowski is breaking up. The 37-year-old offensive player is retiring from football and will not add any more to his total of 430 professional appearances and 134 goals for Borussia Dortmund, Wisla Krakow, VfL Wolfsburg and AC Florenz. The Pole is to be officially adopted on August 5th. “The club plans to honor its legend in an appropriate way,” said Wisla Kraków, where Blaszczykowski’s career had taken off and ultimately ended.

The right-footed player switched from there to BVB in 2007 for around 3 million euros and developed into a crowd favourite. With the black and yellow he was twice German champion and once DFB Cup winner. Only Robert Lewandowski (142 games) played more often for Poland than Blaszczykowski (109). Although the two professionals played 209 times together at club and national team level, they were never considered particularly close to each other.

Blaszczykowski had the highest market value of his career with 18 million euros in the summer of 2013. The winger also played for the “Wolves” in the Bundesliga, but was unable to repeat Dortmund’s former heyday there. “Dear fans, every path has an end. Thank you for the amazing support I received every step of the way. It was worth playing and sacrificing for you. I made the decision to end my career, which wasn’t easy for me.”
