Blankenberge hands out GAS fines for waste on the beach

On the beach of Blankenberge it was again on the heads on Sunday under a radiant sun. Although there are 150 trash cans, some beachgoers still leave their trash in their place.

Fines up to 300 euros

After the extremely hot and busy Monday and Tuesday in the seaside town, the beach was littered with garbage at the waterline. The city department had to clean up no less than eight tons. That was the signal for the city to act harder. From now on, the police will hand out GAS fines to those who throw away a plastic bottle or packaging on the beach. They start from 58 euros and go up to 300 euros. Agents can only give them if they catch the bather in the act.

With buggies, a kind of golf carts, the police patrol the crowd. She continues to raise awareness, but immediately takes action if she notices a violation. Most visitors understand the decision and the tightening seems to deter the sunbathers. Nevertheless, Blankenberge still uses extra rubbish bins and roll containers.
