Blankenberge clears up litter for World Cleanup Day

People all over the world have been picking up litter today. Because it is World Cleanup Day. A lot of waste washes up, but tourists also leave a lot behind. These volunteers are not surprised by the amount of waste they find. The Proper Strandlopers investigate what the volunteers think, because you can sometimes learn from that.

Growing awareness of litter

Some volunteers admit that in the past they were not so careful with litter. But there is growing awareness and less and less waste is being found. Last year, only 200 kilograms of waste was found on this CleanUp Day. The non-profit organization Proper Strandlopers received recognition from UNESCO in 2022. So they do make a difference.
