Blackmailer Aydin C. from Tilburg back in the Netherlands to serve a sentence

The Tilburger Aydin C., who was sentenced in Canada to thirteen years in prison for online extortion and harassment of the Canadian girl Amanda Todd, is back in the Netherlands to serve a previously imposed sentence. The court has yet to determine whether he will also have to serve the Canadian sentence in the Netherlands.

Amanda Todd took her own life ten years ago at the age of 15. After her death, she gained international fame through a video she posted online. In the video, the teen explained that she had been blackmailed with nude images of herself. C. is held responsible for this.

De Tilburger, who was not prosecuted for her death, says she is innocent. In 2020, he was temporarily extradited to Canada, where a jury found him guilty.

Aydin C. is currently serving another prison sentence in the Netherlands. He was sentenced to almost eleven years in prison in our country in 2018 for similar crimes against 33 other young victims. He persuaded his victims, from young girls to gay men, to strip naked in front of the webcam and used the footage for extortion.

In the conversion hearing, the judge determines whether the Canadian sentence can be converted to Dutch standards, and whether he must therefore also serve the Canadian sentence or part thereof in addition to his Dutch sentence. “But because it concerns similar criminal cases and he has already received a maximum sentence for this in the Netherlands, there is a chance that there will be little room left to impose his Canadian sentence on him,” a spokesperson explains to the ANP. “But of course that’s up to the judge.”

No date has yet been announced for the hearing.
