Black Midi: “Hellfire” (Review & Stream)

With each album, the band from London seem to know more about what they’re doing. That’s not so easy with the furor she arouses. References could of course still be listed: King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Mahavishnu Orchestra … But attempts to classify the sound of Black Midi seem increasingly helpless: Black Midi sound like Black Midi!

Seeing eyes into the pit of hell

The title track of their third record welcomes us to the ghost train of the present. “Sugar/Tzu” flushes the brain with a mix of fusion jazz, math and prog rock. “Eat Men Eat” shatters something akin to folk bliss with monstrous fury. “Welcome To Hell” races through a nuthouse world. Seeing eyes into the pit of hell.
