Björk releases new single “Ovule”

With the love song “Ovule” Björk gives us a second foretaste of the announced tenth studio album FOSSORA, which will be released on September 30th via One Little Independent Records. She previously released “Atopos”. Pre-orders are now here possible.

“Ovule” represents Björk’s own perception of love. Announcing the song on Instagram on Wednesday (September 14), she wrote:

“For me, Ovule is my definition of love. It is a meditation on us as lovers walking in this world and I envision two spheres or satellites following us. One about us that represents ideal love. One among us representing the shadows of love. And we ourselves walk around in the third sphere of true love, in which the everyday Monday-morning-meet-in-the-kitchen love lives.”

A tribute to nature and Björk’s late mother

As with “Atopos”, she also released “Ovule” with a music video. The song starts off very calmly, but electronic beats kick in after the first minute, giving it significant dynamics. Björk’s connection to nature is also reflected in this clip: it shows a woman floating on a body of water and another woman who is covered with earth. As usual, Björk herself can also be seen performing the song in an extravagant red and black costume.

Commenting on the album’s title, FOSSORA, Björk explains, “It’s the feminine of fossore (to dig), so in short it means ‘she who digs’ (into the ground). Every album always starts with a feeling that I try to mold into a sound. This time the feeling was like landing on earth and digging my feet into the ground.” FOSSORA will also feature the tracks “Sorrowful Soil” and “Ancestress”, which pay homage to their mother. She passed away in 2018 at the age of 72. Below is the full track listing.
