Peace has returned to the football landscape. The last few days of the transfer market often produce quite the hectic pace. Koen Blommestijn can talk about that. The FC Volendam attacker seemed to be leaving for Italy on a rental basis, but signed for Quick Boys at the last minute. “Everything happens with a reason.”
“For a week my suitcases were ready to leave for Italy,” says Koen Blommestijn about the bizarre recent days. FC Volendam would rent him out for the rest of the season to Gioiese 1918, a professional club from Serie D. “Only it took and lasted. Every time there was something, from financial matters to medical data.”
Press conference
Yet on the last day of the transfer market everything seemed to work out fine. Blommestijn received a call from his agent that his flight had been booked and that he could go that way.
“I had to have my picture taken in the club’s shirt, I didn’t want that.”
“I was supposed to arrive there on Thursday afternoon and a press conference was planned in the evening. In addition to me, eight more players had been signed by Gioiese. However, upon arrival I received another call from my agent with a disturbing message. A new hitch, administratively, not everything had been officially finalized yet. Problems obtaining the correct license to hire me.”

“I just went to the presentation,” Blommestijn continues his story about the absurd adventure in southern Italy. “I just had to have my picture taken there in the club’s shirt, but I didn’t want to. It felt strange to do that, since it wasn’t officially done yet.”
Quick Boys
Meanwhile, time was running out as the transfer market closed later that Thursday evening. “After consulting with my agent, we decided to move on.” Quick Boys had been interested in Blommestijn for some time. “Of course I had to switch gears and I was also very disappointed, but now that I’m back in the Netherlands I’m really eager to play for Quick Boys. And I don’t say this out of decency, but because that’s how it feels.”
“Next season I want to excel again at FC Volendam.”
While Gioiese’s actions were slow and chaotic, Quick Boys did so much more decisively. Everything was completed within a few hours and the 24-year-old Amsterdammer has already completed the first training.

“I have been out of action for more than a year with a persistent foot injury,” said Blommestijn. Partly because of this, he did not figure in the plans of the Volendam main force this season. “At such moments you learn to deal with setbacks and then these types of disappointments are easier to accept.”
Telstar
Last season, FC Volendam rented Blommestijn to Telstar. At the club from Velsen-Zuid he had to watch many matches from the stands due to this foot injury. At the end of the season, the 24-year-old attacker made three more appearances, but in retrospect this was not justified. “I really wanted to play and in combination with painkillers it seemed to be possible, but unfortunately this meant that the rehabilitation took much longer. I only had surgery on my foot last summer.”
Now Blommestijn is back in great shape and wants to shine for Quick Boys at the highest amateur level. “In addition to the regular training with Quick Boys, I will be working extra with personal trainers and then I want to excel again at FC Volendam next season.”
Without Blommestijn, Quick Boys drew 1-1 on Saturday afternoon when visiting HFC.
