Bizarre attack by football club Corenos from Roodeschool viewed millions of times. ‘We are simply not Ajax’

Penalty or not? Huh? A cross by hand? This video of a crazy football fragment from the match between Corenos 1 and Holwierde 1 on November 4 is going viral. Check it out below.

The Corenos striker is knocked out. But he doesn’t get a penalty and then doesn’t think twice: with his hand (!) he tries to give a cross that fails, but with his foot he does reach a fellow player. This is followed by an effort that is cleared off the line, a strange curved ball on the crossbar and, as a worthy final touch, a wonderful diving dive that torpedoes Holwierde’s goalkeeper but does not lead to a goal. These are the hilarious ingredients of the video that Marit van Dijken made during the match.

Lots of comments

“Yes,” laughs Van Dijken (31) himself, “we have had quite a few reactions to this. I actually film every match of our first one and then always put the highlights on Instagram. Those videos attract between 300 and 400 viewers every week, so that’s already very nice. But this one went all the way around the world.”

Marit sent her funny fragment to De Kelderklasse, a Facebook account with almost 200,000 followers that wholesales such humorous football fragments. “And then it suddenly went fast,” says Van Dijken. “Football Inside picked it up, they talked about it there and it went around the world via 433.” 433 | Home of Football is an Amsterdam social media account with around 70 million followers worldwide.

The main character is the son of two Irishmen

“I’ve been looked at quite a lot now,” Jordan Muller (23) realizes. Muller is the striker who is put down, then makes hands and ultimately sees his beautiful diving death in beauty, and therefore the protagonist of the video. “I have had a lot of reactions, really unbelievable,” says the Roodeschoolster, born of Irish parents. “No offers yet unfortunately, haha. But I can tell you that it usually goes a little smoother than in this video. We’re not that bad.”

That is exactly what chairman Bart Rogaar opposes when it comes to this video. “It is of course a very funny video, we also laughed a lot at it, but our first one can really play football. We did not just become the first champions of Groningen in 2022.”

‘We are simply not Ajax’

“Look,” says Van Dijken, “that’s how it goes in the fourth division. Sometimes we play like crazy, but these kinds of things happen too. We are simply not Ajax.”

The almost ESPN-worthy manner in which Van Dijken – her husband Nico de Vries is the trainer of Warffum and her father was on the board of Corenos for decades – is starting to be noticed in the region. “Noordpool UFC in Spijk and Rood Zwart Baflo have already informed us how we do that here,” laughs Van Dijken. “Maybe I’ll give them a lesson soon.”
