FC Bayern suffered an unfortunate setback on the transfer market on Deadline Day.
Joao Palhinha’s planned move from Fulham FC to Munich fell through at the last minute. The 28-year-old Portuguese had already completed the medical check with the German record champions. In addition, Palhinha was spotted on Säbener Strasse with a Bayern jersey in the hands of reporters.
A few seconds before the transfer deadline in the Bundesliga at 6 p.m., several media reported unanimously that the change would not take place.
The background is therefore the lack of transfer permission from Fulham. The London club were reportedly looking for a successor to Palhinha but failed to secure such a deal in time.
The current twelfth place in the Premier League will lose around 65 million euros. FC Bayern reportedly wanted to put this considerable sum on the table for Palhinha.
The midfielder should take over the vacant position of the “Holding Six” in coach Thomas Tuchel’s system. There, the 50-year-old had repeatedly called for reinforcements and ultimately got his wish through – and now he didn’t get it.
No last-minute transfers at FC Bayern
In any case, apart from Palhinha on Deadline Day, FC Bayern did not make any transfers on the access side.
Armel Bella-Kotchap (FC Southampton) and Trevoh Chalobah (FC Chelsea) also failed to find their way to Säbener Straße despite advances from Munich.
FC Bayern also received a rejection from Joao Cancelo in the final sprint of the changeover period. The full-back from Manchester City did not want to add a second chapter to his loan in the past second half of the season on the Isar. He is drawn to FC Barcelona instead.
