Bitter setback for the VfB Stuttgart striker

Serhou Guirassy is actually scoring like he is on an assembly line this season. His international trip with the Guinea national team was therefore a disappointment.

Serhou Guirassy returns empty-handed from his international trip.

In the World Cup qualification he was allowed on the pitch for 30 minutes in the first game against Uganda (2-1) and was substituted on in the 64th minute. Four days later against Botswana, the attacker was even in the starting line-up – for the first time since his thigh injury.

Almost unusual for the 27-year-old: He didn’t score in the 90 minutes and didn’t take anything countable – Guinea lost 0-1 and is in third place in qualifying group G after two games and with three points.

Guirassy obviously totally disappointed

As “Bild” has learned, the striker was totally disappointed in himself and his teammates after the game. Qualification frustration for the national player, who has been spoiled for success this season and has so far scored 15 times for VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.

Guirassy has now returned to Swabia from the international trip to Africa and has not yet taken part in training. He is expected back there on Thursday.

And with high hopes: On matchday 11, Guirassy celebrated his comeback from a thigh injury against Borussia Dortmund and scored the decisive goal from a penalty kick after being substituted on.

Now the Bundesliga is waiting again

On Saturday, Guirassy will be playing with VfB against Eintracht Frankfurt (6.30 p.m.).

It is still unclear what will happen to the Swabians’ top goalscorer in the winter. VfB boss Alexander Wehrle recently gave the Bundesliga club’s fans hope when he declared that VfB had a “chance” in the race for Guirassy. As several media reports, the striker has a winter release clause of 17.5 million euros.

Reports recently made the rounds that Newcastle United wanted to sign the Guineas international. However, the English will not be the only interested parties.
