Tennis professional Tatjana Maria was eliminated in the round of 16 at the WTA tournament in Hua Hin, Thailand. The 36-year-old, seeded number four, lost to the American Katie Volynets 7:5, 2:6, 2:6.
Maria was only able to build on her confident performance in the oldest seaside resort in Thailand in the first set of the hard court tournament. At the start, the mother of two clearly prevailed against the Dutch Arianne Hardono (6:3, 6:1). In the second and third rounds, however, Maria ran in vain after an early break from the American, who was 14 years her junior.
Maria made it through the first round of the Australian Open for the first time since 2016, but then lost the second round match against the Italian Jasmine Paolini. Maria celebrated her greatest success by reaching the semi-finals at Wimbledon 2022.
