Bitter bankruptcy for the BVB talents

Borussia Dortmund’s U19s missed another surprise in the Youth League. The talented BVB, who are the youngest team in the current competition, lost 1-0 to Atlético Madrid despite a strong performance and had to bury their dream of reaching the semi-finals.

BVB’s juniors, who moved to the pros’ stadium especially for the game, started with a lot of vigor and created the first chance right after the kick-off.

Bradley Fink then had the lead again after five minutes after Jamie Bynoe-Gittens was rudely knocked off his feet in the visitors’ sixteen. However, Fink failed from the penalty spot due to his nerves and the good Atleti keeper Alejandro Iturbe.

However, the awarded penalty did not take the wind out of BVB’s black and yellow sails. Iturbe did that again after 28 minutes, parrying a shot by Lion Semic in an outstanding manner. Previously, Abdoulaye Kamara and Göktan Gürpüz Semic had played well.

Instead of the lead they deserved at this point, the young Borussia players got a cold shower. After a foul by Soumaila Coulibaly on Madrid’s El Jebari, referee Julian Weinberger pointed to the point, Javier Currás didn’t miss the chance and scored the decisive goal.

In the second 45 minutes, the Dortmund youngsters didn’t give up, kept up with the favorites from Spain, but just couldn’t put the ball in the Rojiblancos’ goal.

FC Bayern’s flirt also has to give up

Atlético are in the last four for the first time. The Madrilenians had previously failed three times in the quarter-finals of the Youth League. The end was always against the eventual winner of the competition.

RB Salzburg are among the former winners to beat Atlético en route to the title. The Austrians triumphed in 2017 and could repeat this success in 2022. In the second quarter-final of the day, the young Bulls beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-1 despite falling behind early on.

At PSG, El Chadaïlle Bitshiabu was on the pitch for 90 minutes. The defensive high-flyer from PSG was “sports picture“Recently linked to a move to Bayern Munich.
