A current Bitkom survey shows that many companies recognize the enormous potential of artificial intelligence, but are still hesitant to integrate it into their everyday business. The majority of companies would like to see clear regulation of the new technology.
• More and more companies are relying on AI
• Great potential in the area of text analysis
• Low level of utilization despite a wide range of possible applications
The number of companies relying on AI is increasing
Artificial intelligence (AI) is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating and promising technological fields of our time. However, a recent survey by Bitkom of 605 companies with at least 20 employees shows that, despite the impressive potential of AI, many companies are still skeptical and have difficulty identifying concrete applications for their own business models. Nevertheless, the proportion of companies using AI rose from 9 to 15 percent in just one year. This increase suggests that skepticism is slowly fading and companies are beginning to recognize and exploit the benefits of AI.
Low level of utilization despite great potential
The survey results show that while most companies recognize the potential of AI, they remain unsure about how to integrate this technology into their business processes. In the area of text and language, 84 percent of the companies surveyed see very high or fairly high potential for using AI for text analysis. Nevertheless, at the time of the survey, only two percent of the companies surveyed relied on the use of generative AI as a central element.
Companies want clear rules
A notable aspect of the survey is the desire of many companies surveyed for clear and robust regulation in the area of AI. These companies see clear guidelines and standards as a crucial step to strengthen trust in AI systems and ensure that the use of AI can become a sustainable competitive advantage for European companies. This need for regulation shows that companies are willing to use AI as long as the framework conditions are clear and transparent and companies do not run the risk of violating regulations or laws by using AI systems.
