Bishop of Breda disabled for months due to a malignant tumor

Bishop Jan Liesen of the diocese of Breda has been out of circulation for a few months. At the beginning of the summer he struggled with health problems. He was diagnosed with a malignant tumor and was operated on immediately. According to the diocese of Breda, treatment of the cancer is possible, but it will take a long and intensive time.

Liesen was appointed bishop for the diocese of Breda in November 2011, succeeding Hans van den Hende. He was born in Oosterhout almost 62 years ago.

Liesen has already received many heartwarming reactions from people who sympathize with him and he is very happy with this, the diocese reports.

In the coming months, the current affairs will be taken over by the vicars, among others. They will keep in touch with the bishop about this. According to the diocese, Liesen’s absence will not affect a number of reorganisations.
