The US label Fear of God and the traditional German brand Birkenstock join forces and bring a piece of California to the rest of the world.
Designed by Fear of God creative director Jerry Lorenzo and manufactured by Birkenstock 1774 in Germany, the Los Feliz sandal is inspired and named after the unique hills of Los Angeles’ neighborhood of the same name, Birkenstock announced last week. The shoe combines Lorenzo’s design language with the shoe manufacturer’s functional heritage. 1774 is a division of the company dedicated to special projects and collaborations.
The design combines the cork-latex footbed typical of Birkenstock with a deep heel cap, a rough outsole and a wide strap closure. The sandal is made in both children’s and adult sizes and is available in two different materials – calfskin suede and wool felt – and a total of five monochromatic color variations. The version for adults differs slightly from the one for children and is equipped with a higher sole, the translucent rubber insert of which is intended to be reminiscent of the shoes from Fear of God.
“By fusing the Birkenstock footbed and single-strap design with the distinct and refined aesthetic of Fear of God, we continue to foster innovation with like-minded visionaries,” said Oliver Reichert, CEO of Birkenstock.
Depending on the color and material, the Los Feliz sandal model appears slightly offset. The version made of suede for adults is available in the online shops of the two brands and from January 27th at selected retail partners. The model made of wool felt and the versions for children are now available both online and in stores.
