Record national player Birgit Prinz will accompany the German soccer players at the European Championships in England (July 6th to 31st) as a sports psychologist.
“It’s a background job, for me it’s clearly about our players,” said the 44-year-old on “DFB-TV”. “As a sports psychologist, I’m a building block in this puzzle, but not at the forefront.”
The three-time world footballer doesn’t like to speak in public, preferring to work in the background: “It’s just not about me anymore. But I also think it’s absolutely in line with my role not to give interviews every day.”
At the upcoming tournament, she is “part of the coaching team” and is also present at every meeting, as she was at the 2019 World Cup.
The 214-time national player from 1994 to 2011 sees her role as important: “Since all teams at the European Championship are very well trained in terms of football and tactics, and are athletic, the components on the psychological level are becoming increasingly important Little things that decide in the end.”
