Birds and fish dead by fire in specialist shops in Nieuw-Vennep

A fire in Nieuw-Vennep, North Holland, has destroyed a large warehouse that housed, among other things, a fish and bird specialist shop. All animals have died, the fire service said. It is not known how many animals were in the property.

Images from local media showed that the building was completely ablaze. No people were injured.

The fire on IJweg started Tuesday evening. At around 12:45 a.m., the fire service reported that the fire was under control. Two homes had to be evacuated, the residents were able to return during the night. A lot of smoke was released during the fire.

“Words fall short…..”, writes bird and parrot specialty store Allesvooruwvogel.nl on Facebook. “Our life’s work is destroyed within half an hour. Without any kind of goodbye, all the birds have fallen from us.”
