Bird flu diagnosed at Schore poultry farm, 76,000 chickens culled | NOW

At a laying poultry farm in Schore in Zeeland, 76,000 chickens have to be culled because bird flu has been diagnosed. The Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality announced this on Monday evening.

There are no other companies that need to be cleared around the plume company. However, there is an immediate transport ban for the five poultry farms located within 10 kilometers away.

In the region in which the company is located, there was already an obligation to keep and shield companies with commercially kept birds. The company will investigate whether there have been any risky contacts and, if necessary, additional measures will be taken.

Bird flu was also diagnosed at a chicken farm in Lunteren in Gelderland last weekend. Because there are 235 other chicken farms within a radius of 10 kilometers there, agriculture minister Henk Staghouwer reacted with concern to the outbreak.

“Certainly with an infection in a poultry-rich area, such as the Gelderse Vallei, this has a huge impact on many,” Staghouwer emphasized. The minister said that it must be taken into account that bird flu will also be present in the Netherlands during the rest of the year.
