Bird flu diagnosed at poultry farm in Meulebeke

“The confirmation of the new outbreak in Meulebeke shows that bird flu is still present in Belgium,” said Agriculture Minister David Clarinval. “It is very important that hobby poultry keepers and professionals continue to comply with the safety measures.”

Incidentally, there is still a general obligation to keep private individuals all over the country. Bird flu was also diagnosed in Alveringem and Veurne earlier this season.

Bird flu is a highly contagious viral disease to which all bird species are probably susceptible. There is no scientific indication that this H5 virus is also harmful to humans, says the Federal Food Agency FASFC.
