Bird flu diagnosed at Abbekerk hobby holder of ornamental water birds

Avian flu was diagnosed at a hobby holder in ornamental waterfowl in Abbekerk. The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has culled about 100 birds. There is an immediate ban on transport for eight poultry farms within a radius of 10 kilometres.

It is probably a highly pathogenic variant, which means that it is a severe variant that causes serious illness or death of poultry. There are no other poultry farms within 1 kilometer of the hobby farmer.

There is one other company in the 3 kilometer zone where birds are kept. This company is screened for bird flu by the NVWA. In addition, this company will be closely monitored for the next 14 days when it comes to symptoms of disease that may indicate bird flu

Transport ban

There are eight other poultry farms in a radius of 10 kilometers, for which a transport ban applies with immediate effect. During this ban, no birds and hatching and table eggs may be transported from a location with birds.

The ban also applies to bird manure and used litter, and to other animals and animal products from poultry farms.
