Actress and Elvis widow Priscilla Presley is in Venice. The program of the film festival there is namely the biopic “Priscilla”, which was directed by Sofia Coppola (“Lost in Translation”). In a preliminary interview, Priscilla praised the strip and got a bit emotional about it.
“Elvis respected that I was only 14 years old”
In Venice, “Priscilla” is shown in front of an audience for the first time. Coppola’s film describes how Priscilla Presley, who was still very young at the time, met rock icon Elvis and married a short time later. Although she did not attend the press conference herself, Priscilla Presley spoke about her life as a viewer of the film.
“It’s very difficult to watch a film about your life and love,” she told reporters. “But Sofia has done a great job. She has done her homework. And I told her everything I could, too.” The biopic is based in part on the book Elvis and Me, which Presley co-wrote with the help of Sandra Harmon.
The actress also gave insights into her marriage to Elvis at the time. Priscilla was 14 when she first met the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll”. “Elvis poured his heart out to me. His hopes, his fears, the loss of his mother. And I was the one who really sat and listened with him. That was our connection. Although I was only 14 years old, I had an old soul. […] He respected that I was only 14. We were connected in mind and spirit, that was our relationship.”
Priscilla Presley has been in the headlines recently because of her legal battle with her granddaughter Riley Keough. After their daughter with Elvis, Lisa Marie Presley, suddenly died, it was not clear who Lisa Marie’s estate would go to. However, an agreement has now been reached.
Priscilla, which stars Cailee Spaeny Jacob Elordi, will open in Germany in October.
