BioMedTec student conference 2022 in Lübeck

From March 9th to 11th, 2022, the student conference took place for the eleventh time. This year, students from the master’s degree programs in Medical Engineering, Medical Informatics, Biomedical Engineering, Hearing Acoustics and Audiological Technology, Biophysics as well as Robotics and Autonomous Systems were there. The student conference took place online for the second time – a challenge that all participants mastered excellently. 124 students from the Technical University of Lübeck and the University of Lübeck presented the results of their practical scientific projects to their fellow students and a jury of experts from science – a new participant record. At the industrial exhibition, the accompanying Recruiticon, which was organized by Infinite Science GmbH, the students took the opportunity to get in touch with future employers in an uncomplicated way.

“Over the last few years, the student conference has developed into a scientific conference whose content can compete with the annual conferences of the professional societies. The students have to apply with a so-called abstract, a kind of short version of their laboratory work,” explains Prof. Thorsten M. Buzug, Head of the Medical Engineering course, the procedure. “Then they mutually evaluated their four-page English-language specialist articles and made suggestions for improvement, which were taken into account by the authors. This so-called ‘peer review’ is an essential part of publications in specialist publishers, where you also have to face criticism and evaluation from specialist colleagues,” Buzug continues.

Prof. Heinz Handels, Head of the Medical Informatics course, Prof. Stephan Klein, Head of the course Biomedical Engineering, Prof. Alfred Mertins, Head of the Hearing Acoustics and Audiological Technology course, Prof. Philipp Rostalski, Head of the Robotics and Autonomous Systems course, and Prof. Christian Hübner, Head of the Biophysics course, were the scientific directors together with Prof. Thorsten M. Buzug of the student conference 2022. They were impressed by the high level of this entirely English-language conference. Together they honored the best posters and lectures with awards, which were organized by the oncampus GmbH were donated:
