Biobaker makes 20,000 organic bread rolls for Ukraine

Biobakkerij De Trog in Ypres could no longer watch and has therefore baked a whole load of healthy sandwiches for Ukraine. Seven palettes in total leave the day after tomorrow. “Those sandwiches will be distributed to the people who are hiding in the cellars in Lviv,” says Hendrik Durnez. “It was a difficult exercise for us in the sense that the bread had to remain tender for a long time. People also have to be able to consume it immediately when it comes out of the package. We opted for a sandwich full of grains and seeds for the sake of nutrition.”

The company itself saw prices rise due to the corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine accelerated this, but it still donates more than 12,000 euros. “Our gas and electricity prices have almost doubled,” says Patrick Verhamme of De Trog. “Our wheat does not come from Ukraine, but it puts pressure on all prices.”
