GHENT-WEVELGEM Jumbo-Visma and Christophe Laporte let themselves be fooled

WEVELGEM – The Jumbo-Visma demonstration in the E3 Classic seemed to be continued two days later in Gent-Wevelgem. Christophe Laporte looked the strongest in a leading group of four, but the dominance of the Dutch top team was broken by an African fairytale. Biniam Girmay, who was actually already on his way to his home country Eritrea, surprised friend and foe with the way in which he wrote history in Wevelgem. “I have no words for it…” he stammered. “Now back to my country, because I had to miss my wife and daughter for three months.”
